Boss - The head of the family, usually reigning as a dictator, sometimes called the don or “godfather”. The Boss receives a cut of every operation taken on by every member of his family. Depending on the Family, the Boss may be chosen by a vote from the Caporegimes of the family. In the event of a tie, the Underboss must vote. In the past, all the members of a Family voted on the Boss, but by the late 1950s, any gathering such as that attracted too much attention.

Underboss - The Underboss, usually appointed by the Boss, is the second in command of the family. The Underboss is in charge of all of the Capos, who is controlled by the Boss. The Underboss is usually first in line to become Acting Boss if the Boss is imprisoned or dies.

Consigliere - Consigliere is an advisor to the family. They are often low profile gangsters that can be trusted. They are used as a mediator of disputes or representatives or aids in meetings with other Families. They often keep the Family looking as legitimate as possible, and are, themselves, legitimate apart from some minor gambling or loan sharking. Often Consiglieres are lawyers or stock brokers, are trusted and have a close friendship or relationship with the Don. They usually do not have crew of their own, but still wield great power in the Family. They are also often the liaison between the Don and important ‘bought’ figures, such as politicians or Judges.

Caporegime (or Capo)- A Capo (sometimes called a Captain) is in charge of a crew. There are usually four to six crews in each family, possibly even seven to nine crews, each one consisting of up to ten Soldiers. Capos run their own small family, but must follow the limitations and guidelines created by the Boss, as well as pay him his cut of their profits. Capos are nominated by the Underboss, but typically chosen by the Boss himself.

Soldier - Soldiers are members of the family. Soldiers start as Associates that have proven themselves. When the books are open, meaning that there is an open spot in the family, a Capo (or several Capos) may recommend an up-and-coming Associate to be a new member. In the case that there is only one slot and multiple recommendations, the Boss will decide. The new member usually becomes part of the Capo’s crew that recommended him.

Associate - An Associate is not a member of the mob, and an Associate’s role is more similar to that of an errand boy. They are usually a go-between or sometimes deal in drugs to keep the heat off the actual members. In other cases, an associate might be a corrupt labor union delegate or businessman.

Most recently there have been two new positions in the family leadership, the family messenger and Street Boss.

La Famiglia Collefata
Ambitious
Disciplined
Enduring
Leading

The rebel family; once a small subordinate of the Mortella family, the Collefata heir grew weary of playing servant to the Mortella and broke off with other dissatisfied family members. In search of power and control over the city, the Collefata don is a young and headstrong leader, living the life of new royalty and gaining a following of youth and upstarts who want a place in the rising star of power in the city.

La Famiglia Mortella
Purposeful
Direct
Loyal
Righteous

Ancient power is the common idea associated with the Mortella family. Centuries of strength in their position beside the throne built a strong sense of importance and a powerful hierarchy of loyalty to match their family values. Determined to keep their control on the city, they are willing to annihilate the Collefata at any cost. The don of the Mortella family is a middle-aged gentleman, diginified and astute, mindful of his ancestry. Despite his stern demeanor, he has a quality of leadership, and those who follow him are painfully loyal to the family.
16th-Jul-2009 01:42 pm - Story
In 2020, a cataclysmic solar storm annihilated the world as we know it. Radiation killed thousands of species, driving humans to find ways to protect themselves from the lingering effects. It was a futile struggle, however, for the radiation disappeared within weeks, and they were left to rebuild.

Eighty years later, the human race has advanced. Evolved. Mutated.

Not entirely, of course; there are those born without oddities. The strange occurrences allowed the creatures of the night who spent centuries in hiding to come out and join the general population, and now human and freaks live as one and the same.

The government has enforced strict regulation on the populations of the world, though parts of Europe and the Middle East have maintained their freedoms. In the midst of an almost genocidal global attitude, the criminal underworld has started to thrive.

In Italy, those with abilities are prized for their worth. They can be used as weapons to fight the scum of the underworld, or to build the forces of the families that make the city run.

The dominating families in the city of Fiumicino are the Collefata and the Mortella, ancient families in the thriving port city. Their nobility is a political shield against direct government attack, but in the streets, territory and dogfights are law. Things happen, without explanation or reason. The struggle to rule is fierce, but not without gain. One can work their way up in this kingdom, achieve wealth and power-- or steal it.

What side are you on? Good and evil are nonexistent here; everything in Fiumicino is shades of grey.

This is war. And in Italy?

Everyone fights dirty.

Reaping
People will vanish and reappear in this city. It's not all family battles and government arrests.

Sometimes it's the last thing you expect to happen.

They call it Reaping.

Someone will go out, innocently or not, on a night like any other. The black vans are the only warning when they disappear, for weeks, days, months. When they show up again, they're different. New powers, a new virus, missing something.

The labs are hell on earth. The scientists can make a better human, a monster- or they can steal your soul.

Casino
When the stakes in the city aren't high enough, a person can make their own luck in the city's premiere gambling establishment.

At the Fortuna, you can take bets on anything from poker to horse races, buy a hooker, get a room, or simply dance the night away in one of the themed clubs within the walls. The events held here are extravagant, and well worth the danger of having the city's warring factions in one confined place.

15th-Jul-2009 11:31 pm - FAQ
What genre of game is this, exactly?
This game is a futuristic horror and mafioso game. Dark and mature themes make this an adult roleplay. Drugs, sex, and other such things will be plot points, and therefore players must be older than sixteen to play.

Who can I apply for in this game?
Any humanoid character from any published fandom, within reason. We reserve the right to reject applications based on validity of a fandom, but will only exercise this under extreme circumstances. No original characters or animals allowed.

How did my character get here?
This is an AU game, therefore your character has lived in this world for their entire life. You will write a reasonable alternative history for your character in the application process. They can be permanent residents of the city, or newly arrived in Italy.

What is the goal for our characters in this game?
Plainly: Survival. Beyond that, you may do as you please. Plot will be created as the game moves along, but this is a player-driven and interaction-driven game with plot as an additional driving force.

What kind of jobs can my character have?
This is entirely dependent on you and the general distribution of jobs available. We don't want too much of any single career, though we would like your character to have a job suited to their skills. They can be forced into positions, or obtain careers on the black market. Slavery is also a valid option, though it would be preferred that purchasers be other played characters within the game. This would be a limited position, as well, but these would be considered dependents and would have to be supported by their owners.

What restrictions are placed on my character in this world?
Your characters are not gods, and science cannot accomplish all things. Vampires can have their strengths, other paranormal creatures can have their powers, but there is a limit to power, and there is always a weak point. Discuss these with moderators if you have difficulty moderating your character's abilities.

What happens when my character dies?
They can come back, naturally. They simply lose- and perhaps gain- something along the way. The first death's loss will be discussed with the first person to die. It is tied into the plot, and contributes to the dark aspect of the game.

What are these criminal organizations in the city?
There are several, but the main two are the Mortella and the Collefata families. These mafioso are the masters of the city proper. They keep order within their ever-changing borders, but this is a hierarchy of blood and loyalty. The prostitutes, drugs, and people belong to their respective families. The government will try to interfere; the civilians can try to remain neutral, if they please.
